Running Wild
Who: Varon and Resa/Esmerelda Vanuatu
What: Varon has gone rogue and Dartz has hired a hunter to find him.
Where: Barcelona, Spain
When: Present Day AU
With so many variables to sort out in his life, Varon had decided to break from Doma. He never liked to conform to the rules of megalomania yet he was trapped. The Stone of the Orichalcos acted like a beacon and he knew it. He never ran from anything in his life, though this is the first time that he felt he had to. Killing was wearing him down. He saw too many faces in his dreams to keep going with his present occupation, and he wanted out.
Confronting Dartz at his current state was out of the question. The cobblestone streets of the old Barcelona bull run streets offered some comfort. A cantina tucked in the shadowed alley offered a place to rest for a while. Dismounting the yellow Suzuki Intruder Super Sport, he looked down the street. It wouldn't be long before he would be tracked down, so he figured that a small breather would be better than none at all.
Entering the cantina, he eyed around the small bar, and he took a seat in the corner. His eyes watched the door. He knew someone was coming. He just didn't know when...

He knew what faced him there. With her souls clutched in the cards, chances were that Dartz would be more forgiving to him as long as Esmerelda said her piece. It didn't matter now at this point. He'll worry about getting dressed once they reach a safe point.

"It's a damn shame, though, that they couldn't keep their mouths shut," she mumbled, carelessly throwing around her words as if they didn't mean anything.

He twisted the throttle hard. The tire squealed against the asphalt from the sudden pressure on the engine. He had to get them out of there in a hurry before the police arrived. What would have been an easy escape before now became increasingly complicated.
He pressed the beacon on his instrument panel to alert the pick-up team to retrieve the renegade and the hunter. "Shit."

She did hear Resa's pleas to be let out, but she suppressed her for now. After all, she wanted to be just as free as she was.

"We're reachin' the rendezvous point. Hold on tight." He twisted the throttle on his bike from his count back from 5.
His body leaned forward to give them more speed, his knees tight against the bike's guard.

"I think I see the aircraft."
no subject
"Got it." The bike hit the embankment that angled up toward the plane and with the practiced precision of performing this maneuver a hundred times before, he had no troubles landing on the cargo flap of the plane.
Two Doma agents stood behind a rubber shield as Varon turned and skid his bike to a complete stop. "Didn't you asswipes ever learn not t' stand behind that shield? You could'a gotten yourselves killed an' then what? Idiots."
Varon was already frustrated from cutting his unplanned vacation short. He swung his leg over the front of the bike this time and punched one of the agents. "That'll teach ya t' remember it!"

"That's the pecking order~" she said in a singsongy way before deciding to dress herself right then and there. Of course, now that she was awake, there was still much mischief to be had. Though, she did know that not a lot of people in Doma knew about her or the fact that Resa was insane.
It was damage control time.
"E-Er, I mean... don't listen to that gobblygook! Obviously you guys were there to make sure we would stay safe!" she said in a Resa-like way.

The agent looked up at Varon in shock. "She's right. We were only looking after our third in command."
"Tch." Varon swiftly turned away from the two agents that started working the straps to put away the barrier to grab his clothes and dress himself inside the hold. All fun and frivolity was stripped away in an instant.
He looked to Esmerelda knowing that it wasn't Resa talking. "You keep your mouth shut until we get there." His tone was low enough for her to hear even through the hum of the engines that echoed through the cargo bay. "You'll give yourself away."
no subject
"Gee, thanks. I hadn't noticed that, Captain Obvious," she fired back, rolling her eyes.

He zipped up his shirt and snapped down his protective shoulder guards. "Yeah, yeah." He lifted his foot onto his bike to put the finishing touches on his dressing as he tucked the ends of his jeans into the boots before he buckled them down tight.

"Can I have a bottle of water and a washcloth, please?" she asked the agent and he quickly got her what she wanted. Soon, she unscrewed the top from the bottle and poured some water on it, cleaning the blood off of her cheeks and wherever else there was blood.
Next to come was her knife as she made sure to carefully clean the blade just so.
"Do you want to clean up too?" she asked Varon, still keeping up the guise that she was Resa.
no subject
"We're headin' t' Athens? Why there?" He looked over at the pilot.
The pilot didn't turn to face Varon. He gave a simple nod. "Dartz wants us to go there to intercept a scroll that was discovered by some college kids."
Varon's eyes narrowed. Yet another job that he has to act like one of them. "Gimme that book." He pointed behind him at another agent.
Then agent passed it over without hesitation. "Gotta bone up on my Greek."

Soon, her eyes closed and she relinquished control to Resa who looked around frantically. This wasn't the beach, why were they on a plane -- what was happening?!
"V-Varon?"
no subject
Giving the circumstances that surrounded them, Varon knew that either Resa was back or that she was injured and Esmerelda wasn't the one that called out to anyone.

He took a seat next to Resa and buckled himself in. "It's a long story."

She reached over and got a blanket from overhead. She knew that from Spain to Greece was a while yet, so they had some time to kill.
"Um, so. Mind if I, um... use you as a pillow?"
no subject
She called the shots. She always had. Even he was feeling tired from the excursion.
no subject
"Sorry about her, by the way." That was another thing. Resa always felt the need to apologize for her other, much darker half. When something went wrong, she was there to apologize for her wrongdoings, even if she didn't remember it.
no subject
He propped his feet in the seat in front of him to relax and where they both would be comfortable. The welcoming warmth of the blanket that now surrounded them both made him feel a little more sleepy than he originally intended.
"It's a'right now." He spoke softly.
no subject
"Yeah... Now that you're here, brother," she replied just as quietly, closing her eyes a little. The blanket definitely helped to add a layer of protection on her, in which she was grateful for.

The rhythmic humming of the airplane's engine added another factor to his tired state. He didn't sleep well when he tried to escape. He never could. He had to face the reality that his home was with Doma and he couldn't simply leave it. Now that he had a reason to stay, he would have to find a new way to find peace.

As time passed, the plane would dock in Greece as the landing jolted Resa awake. She grunted andd opened her eyes, shaking her head.
"Varon, hey - we're here."
no subject
Given half the chance, Varon could probably sleep through a nuclear blast. The sounds of machines were his lullaby. It was something that he grew accustomed to and was most fascinated with. If he could away with it, he would sleep in the garage but Raphael wouldn't have it and often carried him back.
