Running Wild
Who: Varon and Resa/Esmerelda Vanuatu
What: Varon has gone rogue and Dartz has hired a hunter to find him.
Where: Barcelona, Spain
When: Present Day AU
With so many variables to sort out in his life, Varon had decided to break from Doma. He never liked to conform to the rules of megalomania yet he was trapped. The Stone of the Orichalcos acted like a beacon and he knew it. He never ran from anything in his life, though this is the first time that he felt he had to. Killing was wearing him down. He saw too many faces in his dreams to keep going with his present occupation, and he wanted out.
Confronting Dartz at his current state was out of the question. The cobblestone streets of the old Barcelona bull run streets offered some comfort. A cantina tucked in the shadowed alley offered a place to rest for a while. Dismounting the yellow Suzuki Intruder Super Sport, he looked down the street. It wouldn't be long before he would be tracked down, so he figured that a small breather would be better than none at all.
Entering the cantina, he eyed around the small bar, and he took a seat in the corner. His eyes watched the door. He knew someone was coming. He just didn't know when...

He was feeding fuel to the fire without realizing it. He's not exactly the greatest multi-tasker and it was beginning to show. Talking and riding wasn't his strongest suit.
no subject
"Maybe you do in your spare time!"

People in cars had another good laugh from an outsider's point of view, they appeared like a bickering married couple than a team. "Not now, or ever will ya get me in anything that looks girly, hair or otherwise. That's Amelda's thing with those freakishly long-ass opera gloves. I swear him an' Mai trade clothes."
no subject
"Oh yeah?" While they were waiting for the light to turn green, she moved up to start braiding Varon's hair on the spot. "...Though, don't put that mental image in my head again. I do not want to picture Amelda wearing one of Mai's corsets."

"Ah, so you do have a ticklish spot. I'll be sure to tell Amelda and Raphael later, just to let them know." Though, she still went at it, humming a little bit.

Two years of growth since he arrived in Doma, his hair was a little longer than it once was. Still, the braiding went unnoticed. "Havin' fun?"
no subject
At his question, she nodded and continued her braiding before she moved to another lock of hair.

"Come on, I didn't exactly bring my lunch, ya know." They were on a time limit and needed to get there before the students left the dig site.

Though, at the mention of food, she did get hungry and it showed with her stomach growling a bit. For someone who was malnourished back in the days, eating anything was essential to get her strength and maintain her health.
"After we get back, let's get something to eat. I'm starving."
no subject
The humming of the engine masked both of their stomach pains. He hadn't eaten anything other than something quick along his way which wasn't much. He avoided a lot of things while he was on the run and now it was catching up to him. Being young did keep him from getting sick.
He had to stay alert. "Right, now we got ten minutes on this run. I'm gonna see if we can beat the lights." He increased his speed just a bit more and started to weave through the flow of traffic.
no subject
"Ten minutes is all I need," she said, holding on to Varon a bit tighter.

Two students looked at Varon and Resa in slight confusion then stood to greet them. The air around the site was dry, a slight breeze lifted some of the sand around but nothing notably significant to cause any disturbance to the dig.
A girl holding brushes rushed up and stopped just short of two larger students and slightly behind. Her expression was in shock when she recognized Varon from another site but Resa was someone new. "Wh-what are you doing here?"
Varon didn't offer an explanation to the girl. She took a step back.
"Stay back!" She screamed at Varon as she tried to turn and run. Varon lifted his hand and held her fast by using the Stone to create a barrier around her. "Let me go!"
The two men stepped forward in the attempt to stop Varon.

"I'll be taking this," she said, picking up the scroll as the men went to her to try to stop her.
"Fool. Don't you realize that rifling through someone's history isn't nice?" She lifted her head up as the familiar red tint came forth in her eyes. A small circle came around the men to ensnare them before ripping their souls out of their bodies.
When that was done and she had the cards necessary, she began to walk up once more to the bike. "Five minutes exactly."
no subject
"Deal's a deal." He waited for Resa to get on before he released the girl, her memories wiped clean as she lay unconscious.
"The girl's no consequence. She'll forget me now that I wiped her pretty li'l head." There was a hint of sadness in his tone. Wiping away any memories was the worst kind of punishment anyone could endure, good or bad.
The fact that he wiped himself from the girl meant that he didn't want to be remembered at all. She wasn't his target. If he could avoid it, he would rather not take any souls of the innocent no matter what they saw.
no subject
She did feel a twinge of guilt at stealing those souls, but she knew that the kind of work they were in was not a kind job. Sure, she could tell herself that things would be okay, but were they ever going to be was another question.
Along the way, she was oddly quiet from the teasing farce she had previously. But, she did know she was in good hands here.

He shifted gears and gave himself some time to think. It was a mental barrier for space. He didn't intentionally like shutting people out from his personal thoughts, but his time in prison, his social skills underdeveloped, he didn't know how to discuss what was bothering him.
no subject
Although, her treatment at Bridgeport really didn't help her own social skills. However, she could at least try to help a fellow comrade out.
"...Anything you want to talk about, Varon?"
no subject
Even if he did have the words to say, would he put Resa on the spot like this? He was given an order. They followed the orders. He didn't feel like celebrating.
no subject
"I'm sorry, I'll shut up," she said after an awkward moment of silence while she looked at the view that was passing.
