Who: Varon and Resa/Esmerelda Vanuatu
What: Resa meets one of the Swordsmen for the very first time.
Where: Doma Stronghold
When: First year of Doma

No matter what the reason was, Resa would not come out of her room. The curtains were closed, the sheets wrapped around her as she stared lifelessly at the area of the bed.

Ever since she left Bridgeport, nothing changed. She was still the quiet, strange girl who would be suppressed with every drug known to man and was abused even beyond the point of recognition. Still, she would keep her mouth shut unless if she wanted to be subjected to even more tests and harm. The blanket hid the fact that she was paler than normal, as well as malnourished from the mistreatment she faced.

Soon, she flopped back and rolled over, still staring rather lifelessly at the walls that surrounded her. She wasn't told that she could go out, so she didn't. She wasn't told to get up and do this task, so she didn't. And so, she languished still as her mind worked against her to drive her further into psychosis.

Though, she didn't realize that her door was open just a crack. And that crack would be enough for anyone to hear a faint, quiet voice.

"Why..."

Varon didn't have anything else to do at this point and after one page, he closed the book. Setting it aside, he put his hands behind his head and twisted around with his back to the mattress with his feet propped up against the wall. "Ah, how can ya do this all day?"

He looked clearly bored and exhaustion was threatening to put him to sleep as he let out a yawn.

Resa seemed generally confused at that before she shrugged. "I-I don't duel anymore and I-I don't go outside, so..."

She did, however, finish another picture and held it up again.

"You quit duelin'?" He lolled his head to the side at the statement. He wasn't sure what to make of anything and the reason he was free was because of the death match duels he had won to gain his freedom.

He looked at the picture and studied it for a moment. "So, you color because..."

"I-I haven't dueled in ages. I-I used to be one of the top ones back home in England." And it was true. Her fairy beatdown deck, as well as her warrior deck helped rise her to the top.

"And well, I color because i-it's calming and helps keep my hands busy."

"Oh? What kinda deck did ya use?" He was genuinely curious. His own deck was so unusual that most people that encountered it often didn't survive. He made sure of that considering its rarity. If rumor got around about his dueling style before the right time, he wouldn't have the upper hand.

"F-Fairies, but that's not all. I-I used a Warrior s-support deck, followed by a slight stint w-with dragons a-and rituals." In the dueling world, she really was a jack of all trades. Give her a deck and she could have it figured out with a bunch of strategies raring to go. "You?"

"Armor deck, myself. It's my specialty." Not to mention that it was the deck given to him while he was in prison. He was still getting used to operating the deck properly which was taking a lot of time to learn.

"Armor...? I don't t-think I've heard of that. What d-do you do with it?" For now, Resa stopped coloring and scooted towards Varon a bit. It was closer than when they were on the floor, at any rate.

There was a shrug that soon followed the question. "It's not somethin' I can easily explain. I can use the monsters called an' wear 'em like a suit. They attach t' me. It's pretty neat, I guess."

...

What.

"And then you become the monsters themselves and fight?"

A lengthy pause followed as it seemed like she had new life in her. "That's so awesome!"

"Really?" He turned over on his side and looked at Resa. "Most people think that's weird."

"Mmhmm! I-It's something I haven't seen before." See that, Varon? She's smiling and actually full of life once more.

"Wanna see it?" He pulled his deck from his jumper pocket and handed them over to Resa. "I left the duel disk back in my room. Didn't think I needed t' bring it after all that trainin'."

"I'd love to." Seeing new things definitely helped put her in a good mood. "Um, I've got mine in here if you'd like to see it."

"Sure!" He was always interested in seeing different cards. One deck he used briefly was a Guard Defense Deck which was really difficult to control. Somehow he always managed to escape either by offense or defense.

He reached over toward her nightstand to look at her deck.

The top card was Dunamis Valkyria, as well as different supports for light based cards. There seemed to be plenty of traps too - Magic Cylinder, Trap Hole, Bottomless Trap Hole - a whole slew of different cards.

"What'cha think?"

"That works!" He smiled and returned her deck to its proper place on her nightstand. "It's a good deck. Not one I'd use but it works for ya."

"Thank you." She quickly went to make herself seem presentable while she stood up as much as her body would allow. "I-I wanna see your armor deck."

He handed over his deck to Resa with a grin. "Take a look for yourself. Not sure how that'll work for ya. It's kinda bulky."

Resa took the deck from him and slid it on her arm. With a movement, she picked out the pieces of the armor and summoned it in the respective fields.

What came next wasn't pretty because as soon as it attached to her, she fell over instantly and let out a whimper.

"... help? How do I turn this blasted thing off?!"

Varon tried not to laugh. He's had the same thing happen to him when he first donned the armor only his Overboost had gone off when he called for it and couldn't control it. "Hold up." He removed the deck from her Chaos Disk and took the card off from the reader. The armor vanished in a flash of light.

"Sorry 'bout that. It's kinda awkward at first. Heavy, ain't it?"

After the Chaos Disk was turned off, Resa sat up and pouted at Varon. "D-Don't laugh. I don't like it when people laugh at me."

But, after a while, she chuckled a bit. "Guess it is. How do you move in that sort of thing?"

"Sorry." He cleared his throat with a grin.

"Lot's of practice an' trial an' error. That thing's not easy t' move around in, that's for sure. Solid Vision didn't exactly make the AI workable ya know." He smiled, thankful that she was laughing a little at what happened.

"It's... it's okay. Just keep it in mind for the next time."

Her own grin returned while she snickered a bit. "Guess that makes you stronger than the average bloke. At least I know I'm in good hands now."

"Yep. Guess I better start workin' out more." He flexed his arms. He had some muscle on him for his age. Being fifteen at this point, he didn't have a lot as it stood. He still had a long way to go.
